Problems of v0.9.x that were not extant under v0.8.x

I apologize in advance if these things have already been reported; if so let's the forum admin remove the thread.

I am actually bundling here some major concerns voiced in other threads; they all have to do with Video/DVD and appear only under v0.9.x (0.9.4 was the first one I tried; and now to 0.9.8a). None of these problems exist under v0.8.6

1) Video and audio are out of sync. This happens not always and seems to be a function of the complexity of the material (e.g. don't seem to get it with a B&W DVD on a movie from the 40s but have it to an appalling extent in a ripped version of a protected DVD such as WALL-E). I reported this back in October; the problem still persists today
2) v0.9.x do not allow to run a DVD under the dvdsimple mode. This has been reported by me earlier; other forum members experience similar issues
3) As VLC does not work with a protected DVD (such as most stuff from Disney) one has to rip those DVDs. I use the DVDFab decrypter which works reasonably well. However, contrary to v0.8.6, the new version no longer provides a seamless viewer experience when running this movie from the folder. Instead, there is a gap/interruption after each VOB-file.
4) A lesser problem but still a nuisance is the fact that very frequently, the closing of the player results in a program error by Windows. Again, this never happens under v0.8.6

Great as this program is, I must say that I for one see myself forced to go back to v0.8.6 where things are perhaps a little less "exciting" but definitely reliable. Shall be happy of course to join the community again once these problems have been solved
Kindly

1. Could you share some sample files that show this issue?

3. How do you open that folder (Media -> Open disc)?

"Only" with 0.9.8a dvdsimple:// crashes, I suppose. With 0.9.6 dvdsimple:// is running (just tested by chance, 2 hours ago).

You may be right on that one Harald; I didn't test v0.9.6 but seem to remember that dvdsimple still ran under v.0.9.4. However, points 1,2 & 4 seem to hold for all versions of 0.9.x

As to the comments of VLC Help - which file are you referring to? My points 1,3 & 4 produce no log; for point 2 find the text below.

Don't understand your item No 2 ; when I open a folder, I don't open the disc and vv

You can open VIDEO_TS folders using two separate options. Media -> Open Disc... and Media -> Open Folder. First one is the proper way, second one is a hack that was implemented and it might not work correctly.
Give some sample files that show this issue.

I still don't get what you mean by "files". As said before, the out-of-sync happens rather arbitrarily & across board (although I have a notion that it happens more frequently with complex material).

But if you mean VOB-files, try out VTS_01_3.VOB from "WALL-E". There it is especially bad

MH

BTW: I have gone back to v0.8.6 so at this time I no longer encounter any of these phenomena mentioned in my first post
