Audio settings-- how to disable center speaker?

I don't have a center speaker, but have 2 front and 2 rear. I have to manually switch VLC from 5.1 to 2f+2r speakers every time. I don't see standard or advanced settings to always choose 2f+2r speakers. Is this possible?
Thanks!

Not ATM. I planning to add this to DirectSound output.

That would be excellent. Thanks. Especially helpful for those who use VLC to drive their HTPC (Home theater PC), or any computer driving an HDTV.

Almost 4 months. Any status on this feature? Also it would be nice to force surround decoding when available. Now I have to manually enable surround if there is a stereo track present as well.

I added speaker setup override option to VLC 1.0.0, but you can only use it with DirectSound output.
