Jerky/choppy playback on new LG 22' Widescreen LCD montior

I just purchased an LG 22" Widescreen Monitor thinking I could enjoy my movies in fullscreen, but I have just been hit by some major problems.
First I did search and follow some tips on other threads about Jerky/choppy playback. I disabled "Accelerated video output" and changed the Output. The two that seem to work are "Windows GDI video output" and "Open GL Video Output". On a small VLC window size, the playback runs smoothly, but when maximized or put to fullscreen the playback becomes choppy and jerky.
Here's my set up
Windows XP SP2
700mhz
512MB ram
(and the worst part of all, I have an integrated graphics card)
Now I know my PC is ancient, I've had it for about 4 years now..but I used to play Video on VLC with no problem. Although it was a 17" screen. Another thing that I suspect might be the problem is that my new 22" resolution is recommended at 1680x1050. Yet on "Display Properties" I can only set the maximum screen resolution to 1280x1024.
So is there something I need to change on my LG 22" LCD monitor or update to a new graphics card or something I have to change in VLC settings?
Please help, any is greatly appreciated
