Naming Releases

Hi

A few Days ago I downloaded vlc 0.9.6 and had problems playing .flv files. A few minutes ago I downloaded vlc 0.9.6 and the problems are gone. I understand that there can be a problem in such a huge projekt like vlc every now and then but next time, please find a way to make sure that 2 different releases are named differently. It sucks having 2 files on my harddrive both named vlc-0.9.6 and just one of them is working the way it's supposed to.

Anyway, I love vlc.

Regards

Moved to VLC media player for Windows. Please read the forum rules before posting (see the red box at the top of the page).

As for VLC versions, there are no full time Windows developers so it is difficult to iron out all issues whilst keeping the released versions inline with other platforms releases. Since it was an issue with the binary build a new release/bugfix release probably wasn't warranted. Since the older 0.9.6 version was a broken build there shouldn't be much reason to keep it.

Arite.

The problem I was complaining about is not a windows specific one. So telling me about rules and moving my topic is not very nice and acually makes me angry. What you did was just unaesthetic, one dosnt release 2 different builds of a program both waring the same name and version number.

But do as you please. This has been my last post.

The reason I moved your post was since it was not related to "Forum, Website and Artwork discussion". It was just done to place it in a more suitable category.

If you would prefer I can place it in the General VLC media player discussion forum since I agree the discussion may not be entirely Windows-specific?? Just say and I'll do it.

As for the broken builds, I suppose "VLC 0.9.6a" could have been released fixing the broken build (I not a developer though :)).

Cheers, Arite.
