Is there a way to launch a file or executable on launch?

hello,
does anyone know of a way to launch a file or executable on vlc launch ?
the main purpose is to use autohotkeyhttp://www.autohotkey.com to convert mouse buttons to keyboard keys, to be able to use the mouse buttons in the shortcut configuration or even reassign the mousewheel to whatever I want it to do

I'm searching of a way so that double clicking a video will auto-launch a autohotkey script OR executable. (and autohotkey will deal with closing itself upon vlc close)

thanks for any idea.

hum yeah or I could directly launch a autohotkey script this way since it's a script language you can do anything with it
problem is : I would have to modify the registry entries pointing to vlc for video formats
might try to do that, I just hope there isn't 12334123 registry entries to modify

update:
there would be more than 400 registry entries to modify to let windows launch a script like .bat or autohotkey upon vlc launch
seems quite an impossible task unless there's some kind of find + replace for registry tool that I don't know about (amount of keys found with http://www.resplendence.com/registrar free edition )
