ac3 problem

Hi,
In some video files there is a sound problem.
when I try to play it in VLC it gives me just stereo sound.
when I play it in zoomplayer it plays but just if I go to
filter properties/AC3 filter & mark the option - use SPDIF (passthroug).
in VLC there is no option like that that I saw.
I hope there will be
(the ac3filter is ver. 1.51a)

Cheers.

VLC doesn't use AC3Filter - VLC uses it's own codecs.

When the video is playing in VLC try:
Audio >> Audio Device >> A/52 over S/PDIF

not good for me.
when I use the A/52 over S/PDIF, I get stutters in the sound.

p.s

I have d/l VideoInspector & used it on the problematic file.
so now i know that the file was ac3 2.0 (stereo) & not ac3 5.1
but in the zoomplayer it sounds much better in SPDIF passthrou instead of the VLC stereo.

Try changing to the "waveOut" output module. Go to:
Tools >> Preferences... >> Select "All" for "Show settings" (bottom-left hand corner) >> Audio >> Output modules

And select waveOut. Save settings, restart VLC, and then try A/52 over S/PDIF.

there is 1 drawback with this method.
I cannot change the volume, can I?

Possibly not using the Windows Mixer. VLC's volume control might work? Use the external amplifier to do that otherwise (the recommended method when using external amplifiers normally anyway).

VLC's volume control not working. :(
The only thing that do work is the volume control on my keyboard.
(probably because it controls the Wave volume)

You cannot control volume if you use A/52 over S/PDIF. It would require re-encoding of the packet audio and VLC can't do that, also it would decrease quality of audio. That is why you have to control audio level from amplifier.

It would be nice to have control over the windows wave volume in "spdif" mode instead f the regular volume.

That would defeat the object of S/PDIF since the idea to to transfer audio as-is to an external hardware decoder and/or amplifier. If you want to control the volume in Windows output in 5.1 through the Windows Mixer to your external amplifier via other connectors.

Ok, so there can be an option that let a user choose to leave it as is or to change it.
