VLC does not play AVI files

I am running Windows 2000 and have configured AVI files to open automatically with VLC. Most AVIs play fine, but one bunch won't.

When I double click on the AVI, the VLC window opens minimized, but the video does not. The progress indicator moves fast to the end and neither video nor audio plays.
There are no error or other messages.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Use tool called MediaInfo to identify the codecs used in those AVI files and report them here.

The codecs fields are all blank.

Then those files are either FAKE or broken.

I have the same issue, the files play fine if you open VLC then drag them onto the program bar or use the open control.
Their not broken, their not fake.

VLC WILL play them, it just WONT open them.
And it used to.

smurfmachine: When you double click that AVI file, you also see
The progress indicator moves fast to the end and neither video nor audio plays.
or VLC doesn't do anything?

It didn't do anything. Wouldn't even open VLC when doubleclicking a file.
now appears to be fixed having installed 0.9.2.
9.4 seems to be the problem then.

you might want to check what changed between those versions to cause the problem.

Wouldn't even open VLC when doubleclicking a file.
There must been something wrong in your file associations.
