VLC 0.9.2 - recording access filter .DAT file - what now?

Hi,

I'm trying to record H.264 stream using Record access filter (Tools --> Preferences --> Input / Codecs --> Access filters --> Record). After enabling it and turning ON Advanced Controls in Tools menu, the Record button shows up, and stream recording can be started and stopped.

Now, this creates a .DAT file which I have absolutely no idea what to do with - it does not appear to be anything remotely resembling a media file - even GSpot Codec Information or Media Info tools do not recognize it as anything useful.

My question is, how can I convert it?

Thanks for help!

Hi j-b,

Streaming server is VLC 0.8.6i with mux=asf input. Yes, I know it's not mux=ts, but only mux=asf input works properly for me when streaming H.264 / AAC. Otherwise I just can't get sound to work at all. My streaming client is VLC 0.9.2, and now I'm testing the latest nightly 0.9.3 - same results, though.

I tried to use 0.9.3 for streaming, but as some already mentioned in earlier threads, it crashes whenever H.264 streaming is attempted.

Thank you!

EDIT:If I play the stream on client side, and save the stream at the same time instead of using record access filter, then MP4 file that is created is flawless - no problems playing it back.

On a side note, there is something wrong with saving streams as 95% of the time, it will only save audio, not video... But once it happened to save both audio and video, it's works great!
