Change video output module or disable Overlay video output. (Save and restart VLC after changes)

I have the same problem. I've been using 0.8.6h on an XP Home PC for a couple of years now, and just upgraded to 0.9.2 today. Right away video playback failed, with no error messages, nothing, even though the audio is fine. I tried every available overlay, or none, but nothing helped.

You also tried other video output modules than default choice?

Yes, it was set to default, so I tried DirectX, OpenGL, etc. Saved and restarted player each time, then played a video.

Then your graphic drivers and directX install are pretty f**ked up.
