Album Art

Dumb question...but how do you get the album art to work. I am playing my mp3s but I don't see any album art going with it. Is it something I have to manually or is it automatic?
At the moment it is best to leave this preference in the default which is manual. The function does not work and causes vlc to crash if there is already album art in the directory you are trying to play.
