VLC 0.9.2

Hi there, im new to the forums but not new to the player. After installing the new version I was first off delighted to see some great improvements and stability changes. I was quite impressed with the fact I can play full HD films with better performance now compared with older version, where it was a bit choppy at times.

Despite this I have one problem I have to raise, which I can't seem to find a solution to anywhere including these forums. If there is or an explanation for the problem, please let me know

So, when I try to play 1080p HD films with the .wmv file extension I get the following error message:

"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "wmap". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

VLC would then play the video but not the audio. I can't really play the file anywhere else because vlc provides the only watchable quality :D

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Are you on Windows XP with WMP10 ?

WMAp is a 5.1 audio format for the WMA container and is not supported in VLC. The probable cause is support in FFmpeg.

That you can access through Dmo if you have WMP10

But WMAp audio still doesn't work under WMP 11 and or the SDK using the DMO option in VLC!

That was the last time it worked! But you needed to have the SDK installed.

I doubt that. I will rewrite an howto on this.

I agree it gets rather messy. I believe the real issue here is FFmpeg support for WMAp. WMP 11 and the SDK is better than WMP 10 and the SDK was an optional add on or you could do the package that gave you VC1, but was not available on Microsoft's update website, you had to search for it. Going back to that now (for most users) would be ah... daunting to say the least.

I found old trac ticket.
Sample:

aka halflife2ep2_theadvisor_082_wmvhd.wmv

But it works at least in XP with WMP 11.

Hi there, sorry I didn't reply straight away iv'e been really busy.

I have Windows XP sp2 and have WMP11 but don't like to use it because it doesn't delivery very good performance at all.

That is why I want to play it in VLC, like I said before because its so much better :)
