need help for .AVI and .WAV

Postby GHFan » 14 Sep 2008 04:38

For some reason, I can't get VlC to...

Play .WAVs at all, I just get an error that says "filetype not supported"

And when I open a .AVI file it plays the audio fine but no video.

Help?

While both .wav and .avi are very common containers it maybe helpful to know what the file formats are.

VLC supports both DTS and PCM in a WAV container (wrapper).

VLC also supports DivX, XviD and h.264 in a AVI container along with a wide variety of audio formats.

If VLC does not show the formats you are trying to play by pressing ctrl i and going to the advanced info... tab, try a program like Gspot. Be aware that Gspot uses Windows codecs and VLC is self contained and therefore does NOT use Directshow codecs.

You can also try nightly builds.
http://nightlies.videolan.org/

If those don't playback your files, then as DJ said, you have to give us more info.

file name: engine 2008-09-14 00-10-00-20.avi
thers no advanced info

statistic says:

input: read media = 14752kb, input bit rate = 18298, demuxed = 13873, stream bitrate = 19066
video: Decoded blocks 135, displayed frames 299, lost frames 133

To the best of my knowledge codec = CRAM name Microsoft 1 is NOT supported. If you had opened the video in VLC and then pressed ctrl i and select the advanced information tab the video should say unsupported.

CRAM fourcc should be same as MSVC (Microsoft Video 1), which VLC should play.
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/1199

so either post us short sample file so I can try fourcc trick or try it yourself (change fourCC from CRAM to MSVC).
