HD 1080p issues

Postby dasx » 20 Aug 2008 15:00

I used the search option, and didn't find any thread which would help me at all, so please, excuse me if there is a thread or an existing solution for this.

I got no problems at all when playing .mkv 720p, but when playing 1080p I find some issues. For example:
1. I can open and play it, but if a try to skip to half the movie or any other point, it just freezes and stays there. (this happens with 720p too)
2. Almost every time a movie shows a scene made by computer, with a lot of details, (like the matrix-coded scenes in the Matrix Reloaded, at the beggining of the movie), the video freezes and keeps going after this scene.
3. I got random freezes during play.

Any ideas? (I got a good computer, I'm sure it's not the problem).

Thanks.

P.S: Sorry for my english.

I had similar problems and installed the free version of ZOOM player and at worked like a charm. Make sure you get the Matroska plugin .

No offence to all you VLC supporters.

good luck.

Thanks for that. Will try it out as soon as I get home.
What about quality? Is it as good as VLC on that spot?

Thanks!

OK, it works fine, and lets me do everything I mentioned before, but quality is worse, for sure.
Any solution for this with VLC? (With no quality loss if possible).

Thanks!

you can also try nightly builds. They have better H.264 decoding.

OK. I can say h.264 decoding is much better now, I tried different movies at points I knew it stopped with 0.86i and now working fine. I can go to any point of the movie with no problems at all.

But I found something strange. There is a movie which I can see perfectly, but it shows some audio problems. It seems the audio cuts off for 0.1 seconds every 3 seconds. I thought it was a movie's issue, but it doesn't occur if I play it with Zoom Player, for example.
(It happens with 0.9.0 too).

If there is any information I could give about its audio to help VLC to be better, just tell me and I'll send it wherever you tell me.

Thanks a lot.

I am no expert but all I can say is that when you install Zoom player, make sure you run the Install Centre as it finishes. If you already did then you might also notice Windows Media Player also now plays the .mkv files. Try both players now . I don't have video quality problems but then again I am no expert :)

I don't say quality fell down a lot, if I watch a movie with VLC and ZPlayer in my computer, quality is more or less the same, no differences.
But if I plug a Full HD TV to my computer (HDMI output), then I see the difference between players. :)

Tools -> Messages and set Verbosity to 2 and then open the file and see if you get any audio related messages when there is playback issues.

It might be a file format issues or issue with video decoding taking too much CPU and audio decoding has problems because of this. You can remux the MKV file and create new MKV file with same audio but different video to figure out the reason.

Unfortunetely I don't know how to do that. I thought it was a problem with the file itself, but other players can play the file with no problems at all.
It's the first file I have problems with when using VLC, so no a big problem there. Will watch this movie with a different player and will go back to VLC after it.

Thanks!
