I am a newbie too and have the same problem. I can import the WPL files into VLC Playlist, but it does not do anything or expand the playlist. How do you actually import this to work correctly?

My bad. It seems WPL playlists aren't supported. m3u playlists should work.

Eureka - All you have to do is go to Windows Medi Player (WMP) and kick-off your WMP Playlists, then resave the WPL as a m3u file in WMP - ie Save Playlist As .Then you can import this new m3u playlist to VPL no problem.

It is much easier than that. Follow these five (5) simple steps:
1. Right-click on 'Playlist' in the top left.
2. Go down and select 'Open Media'
3. Then go across and click on 'Open Folder'
4. Browse to the folder you have the WMP playlist files that have the .wpl extension. Usually, it is in C:\Users\...\Music\My Playlists\
5. Then click on 'Select Folder'.
You should now see all your playlist from Windows Media Player :D
