I was going to say it still crashes for me too... I downloaded and installed the latest version from the homepage just yesterday and still had the snapshot function crash VLC. However, after clicking the link above on this thread, downloading that exe file (even though it's the same version no.) and installing it (after completely removing my previous installation), it now works just fine, snapshotting as the VLC gods intended!

Thanks for the hint :D . Haven't noticed the links above. Somehow, it's a bit irritating.
I'll check the exe and see what it does 8) .

That may sound silly but now I got a bunch of vlc files without any installer.
I don't think it's a good idea to remove the current insallation and just use the stand-alone vlc.exe. I sense trouble with plugins, file associations and so on. Can you tell me the best and least troublesome way to install the new build files. :?

I have been working with a application that uses vlc to stream video for 9 months now. The latest working vlc version was 0.8.6f. All versions after that have serious bugs in the stream part of the program.

I tried 0.8.6i today and its the worse vlc build ever released. It is so full of bugs, i don't know where to start.

Bug1: Try to stream a avi file over a local network.(HTTP) MPEG TS, H264 video and MPGA sound. The machine streaming will totally hang and clients will never receive the stream. Needs to reset the computer streaming.

Bug2: Try to stream from a computer that has vlc 0.8.6f installed to a computer that has 0.8.6i installed. The computer with 0.8.6i will not receive the stream because of http header error.

This has been tried out on 3 different computer located at different locations. Its working fine with vlc 0.8.6f

I am almost satisfied with 0.8.6f but it has a bug that is extreamly annoying. When you stream from a computer to another computer over the internet. If the internet drops the client receiving the stream will just give you the following error "recv failed (10054)". You need to manually stop the stream at the client and start it again.
Is it anyone that have been working with this bug ?

I only knows Visual Basic, therefore i cannot fix the bugs on my own. If someone have the same problems that i have and is willing to try to solve them with me, send me a message.

0.8.6 won't receive any support, so test with nightlies (x264 encoding might be still broken, but at least someone tries to fix it)

0.8.6i version shows 0.8.6g

Postby spaceling » 08 Sep 2008 01:46

0.8.6i version shows 0.8.6g in the vlc.exe properties. This would be trivial except that the version information is used by Secunia PSI (and possibley other security scanners) to flag executable's with security advisories.

That is partly why this topic exists:
Fixes the snapshot issue
Fixes the compatibility with Win98/Me
Fixes part of the PSI Secunia issue

Those builds have replaced the ones on the FTP as official 0.8.6i.
