VLC crashs when i do a screen capture

Hello,

I have a bug with the latest VLC (0.8.6i).
When i do a screen capture (in french menu : "Vidéo / Capture d'écran"), the VLC crashes. I tested with a lot of divx and DVD and the problem is still present.

I have uninstalled the 0.8.6i version and reinstalled the 0.8.6h one. The screen capture is ok with no crash.

My configuration : Vista Home Premium SP 1 32Bits / 4Go RAM / CG Leadtek 8800GT (latest drivers).

The Vista's event viewer :
Application défaillante vlc.exe, version 0.8.6.0, horodatage 0x4875a34b, module défaillant unknown, version 0.0.0.0, horodatage 0x00000000, code d’exception 0xc0000005, décalage d’erreur 0x00000000, ID du processus 0x1664, heure de début de l’application 0x01c8e769b5aae527.

Can someone can confirm this bug ?

PS : i have a second bug with the languages in VLC. At first, I installed VLC in French. If i desinstall and reinstall it in english, the menus are still in french.

I also get a crash when i do "snapshot", tried 3 times, gone back to 0.8.6h instead as that works fine.

Snapshot is same as screen capture.

Did you reset VLC settings during reinstall?

me too, resetting the settings made no difference. Hope 0.8.6j is released quickly with this fix.

Also i've tried 0.9.0 Release2 but when i uninstall it and then install 0.8.6h i get 0.9.0 release2 again, 0.9.0 doesnt seem to be removed and it crashes everytime when you double click on a filetype that is default e.g a .mp3

i get:

"The procedure entry point __vlc_thread_ready could not be located in the dynamic link library libvlccore.dll"

The only way to play a video is to open vlc, then do file open, you still get the error message, but the video will play after clicking OK.

Resetting should make the language go to default one. --language can be used from command line to change default language.

You are sure vlc.exe was closed before you tried to uninstall 0.9.0?

think you were right, vlc kept crashing and not loading and so there became loads of instances of vlc.exe running in task manager, i just closed them all and re-installed vlc 0.8.6h, all working nicely now, thx.

I hope 0.8.6i gets the screenshot crashing fixed as i'd like to use that version.

No VLC was running when i uninstall.

Things i do :
- Uninstall VLC (that was in french) with the "Programs And Features" panel
- I delete VLC preferences and cache
- I run vlc-0.8.6i-win32.exe choosing "english langage" and select again "Delete preferences and cache"
VLC is still in french

Does it help if you select english langage and press Save and restart VLC?
(and uninstall trick was for uninstall problems, not for language problems)

If i change the language via VLC Preferences (Interface / Language / American English), Save and restart VLC, the language is this one.
Thank you.

There should be test3 available. So please no test2 reports :D

Perhaps I just don't get it but...
'VLC help' seems to have addressed a secondary issue on language settings whilst saying nothing about the snapshot issue.

Perhaps 'VLC help' could confirm that crashing on screen capture (snapshot) is an unresolved issue for version 8.6i for win XP and Vista users.

I already gave link earlier.
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=48198&start=0&st=0 ... t=snapshot
and yes, it is a known issue.

Thanks for your confirmation of the issue.
I missed out the link earlier because I wrongly assumed that it led simply to a glossary of terms:
Screen capture=snapshot etc.
Just shows how it's possible to misinterpret information.

Definitely have/had this exact same problem and exact same results with uninstall of 0.8.6i. Fixed by downgrading to 0.8.6h.
