Extended GUI/Equalizer

Postby earflea » 14 Jul 2008 17:42

I am hard of hearing and my hearing aids don't help much with speech. I find that I can adjust the Equalizer settings so as to much improve my reception. However I can find no way to save those settings. There is no Save button - indeed the only relevant button is "Restore Defaults" which works automatically each time the VLC program starts.I have searched everywhere for an answer - this forum may hold the answer but seems too technically written for me to understand. Can anyone tell me a simple answer to the problem - the only one I have with this wonderful program.

So far, you cannot easily save those, but you can in the preferences.

As j-b if you want a equalizer setting which is applied to all audio/video files then change the values in the Preferences. To do this go to:
Settings >> Preferences... >> Audio >> Filters

And tick the "Equalizer with 10 bands" tickbox.

Then go to the "Equalizer" section within the "Filters" tree. From there an Equalizer preset can be selected. If you want your own custom preset then tick the "Advanced options" tickbox and enter the gain value in dB for each frequency range, separated by spaces. The easiest way to do this would be to make a note of the dB value for each slider when using the Extended GUI, and then enter them in the "Band gain" text box in the preferences. For example:

Code: Select all

20 15 10 0 0 10 15 5
Would be 20dB for 60Hz, 15dB for 170kz etc.

Then press "Save" and next time audio is played the equalizer should be applied.

Cheers, Arite.
