VLC with ATI TV Wonder VE

Hi,
I'm having trouble getting VLC version 0.8.6f to play video from my ATI tuner card (TV Wonder VE). The software bundled with the card works fine, but when I try to open that device in VLC, the video just appears all blue.
I'm not sure what the settings in the "Advanced options (DirectShow input)" screen should be set to.
Once this works, my plan is to stream this video over my local network. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
mhjacobson

Have you tried disabling video overlay? Go to "Settings >> Preferences...". In the "Video" section untick "Overlay video output" and press "Save". Then try opening the stream again.
If that didn't help try changing the video output module to e.g. "Windows GDI video output" or "OpenGL video output". to do this go to:
Settings >> Preferences... >> Video >> Output modules
And tick the "Advanced options" tickbox. From the drop-down menu select the desired video output module and press "Save". Restart VLC and then try the stream.
Cheers, Arite.

Thanks for your help, but I'm still getting the same problem: the video is all blue. Even when I try and stream the output over the network, remote clients see the same blue video.
Do you know what options I need to specify in the Open->Advanced options dialog (country code, input type, input pins, output pins) or where I can find out?
Thanks again,
mhjacobson

In the VLC console, I'm getting the following error:
Code: Select all
[00000305] dshow demuxer error: capture device 'ATI TV Wonder Capture' does not
support required parameters !
Any ideas?

As far as I know VLC has limited TV card support. Try a development build of VLC:

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried 0.9.0-git-20080529-0003, but the same problem seems to occur. The video just appears blue.
I feel like the TV Wonder is one of the more popular tuner cards out there, and someone must have gotten this to work.

So, just to be sure, for both OpenGL and Windows GDI video outputs the video was blue? Did you ensure VLC was restarted after making the changes?
For the video device are you able to get the "Configure" window up when select the DirectShow stream?
Arite.

I'm having the same problem. The ATI application displays TV as expected, but VLC just shows a blue box. I even tried putting the card in a Kubuntu system, but I still have the same problem.

You tried different video input pins from Advanced options...?

I tried all the values from -1 to 25 and I still just get the blue screen. Anything else I can try?

Is there a better way for me to get the video input pin rather than trial and error? I can't even tell how high the pins go.

Not with VLC. There might be some other tools that can spell you the proper pins. But the numbers should be small and sequential.

Can you recommend any tools that can help with this? The Hardware Compatibility page (
http://wiki.videolan.org/Hardware_Compatibility_list) makes mention of using out pin 656 for one card. As I said in a previous post, I went from -1 to 25 and find it very hard to believe that isn't a better method than trial and error to get anywhere near a number that high.

there is one suggestion like
try the BT8x8 wincap drivers which might work better.
I am not sure if there is a program that uses FindPin and also displays the pin numbers.

Can nobody figure this out? This is a pretty popular tuner card.
Could someone take a look at this again? Thanks.
