VLC MKV Crashes

Hey, I love VLC, but it constantly crashes while I try to watch anime in MKV files. The soft subtitles are part of it. Is this .8.6e so i think I am upto date. I have XP media center. Any ideas?
Sorry if this is a repost.
Thank-you

test nightlies and check if they work better. And make sure you only have few MKV files in same directory.

I tried the may 15th vlc and I can't even open a MKV file with out a microsoft visual C++ library runtime error. The audio still starts but the video does not. I will try the other vlc I had again.

So far it seems that the vlc beta is better with the soft subs, I was actually able to watch the new evangelion movie with out it crashing the subs where as the previous vlc crashed twice during the movie.

Cool. Great news. Do you have a nice screenshot of VLC with a softsub ?

VLC still does not screencap the soft sub text while watching the vids. I checked settings and it is possible I missed something but as far as I know, and I just tried before posting this, you can't snapshot the softsub text. At least I couldn't with the mkv.
I personally prefer it to not capture the text though.
I'll let you know if I have any softsub crashes but I'm keeping my fingers crossed it won't.

Most MKV I use have the soft sub inside them. Also I don't know how you can do that unless you manually apply text to a still image.
VLC snapshot doesn't capture text and if you try to print screen your desktop it doesn't capture any of the video or text.

Disable Overlay video output if you want to take screenshots using Print Screen key.

I tried but that did not work. Your screen is from the current vlc not the beta? Each time I pressed snapshot the text instantly disappeared. Although this stuff isn't related to my original post it is mkv related so I'm trying stuff out that you guys suggest.

Change the video output module to OpenGL then take a screeshot. To do this go to (in the Preferences):
Video >> Output modules
And tick the "Advanced options" tickbox. From the drop-down select "OpenGL video output" and press "Save". Restart VLC for the changes to take effect and play a video etc.

True
. OK then, in the Qt4 interface go to:
Tools >> Preferences...
And select the "All" for "Show Settings" in the bottom-left corner. Then go to:
Video >> Output modules
And:
From the drop-down select "OpenGL video output" and press "Save". Restart VLC for the changes to take effect and play a video etc.
