Windows XP Problems (nightly)

Postby Gobd » 20 May 2008 19:59

In the latest nightly (20080515-0003) althoughthe option "Integrate video in interface" is enabled by default the video is not integrated into the interface. When I open a video I get the regular VLC controller window along with a hardware overlay window that holds the video. I assume integrate video in interface should work like the old VLC resulting in just one window holding the controller and video. Also when I quit VLC I get this error

Runtime error!

Program: vlc.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

This version is looking nice so far though.

Crash on shutdown is known and longstanding issue. And you are right, VLC nightly now opens another window for video.

I'm receiving the runtime error ('terminate it in unusual way') on VLC shutdown both on WinXP and Vista when 'Allow only one instance' checkbox is enabled in Preferences ( vlc-0.9.0-git-20080528-0436-win32.exe ). If this checkbox is not checked VLC quits without errors.

The latest ( vlc-0.9.0-git-20080529-0003-win32.exe ) nightly build does not fire runtime error when shutting down with 'Allow only one instance' enabled. When you try to close it, VLC disappears from the screen, but the process silently stays in a task manager list and the process usage loads to around 50%.

If you disable 'Allow only one instance' checkbox VLC is shutting down without problems. (WinXP Pro SP2).

This is still a problem.

I can't exit VLC without having to kill the vlc.exe process in task manager.

Is it hard to fix?

Yep. There have been multiple patches that have tried to fix this issue (AFAIK there is multiple issues that can cause this and some of those have been solved). It doesn't always hang to process list (at least not in my computer) so it is hard to make sure all the problems have been fixed.

any tips on making it not happen?

Is it possible to create a shortcut to kill the process? Having to open up Taskman each time is quite annoying.

Fixed as in todays build? Or should have been fixed by now?

Also the Nightly Builds don't play subtitles automatically.

Is there a group of people who work on the Nightly Builds then?

EDIT: Tried Aug 3rd build and the shutdown bug is still there. I had to create a .bat file which kills the process.
