Problems with subtitles

Postby Loimulohi » 16 Apr 2008 19:29

Hello.

I have a problem with my VLC (Windows version) and subtitles. I have been watching episodes from an anime, and of course, since I can't understand Japanese, I use the subtitles. I think they're TrueType fonts. Problem is that the subtitles aren't "slapped on" the video, but instead they're left for VLC to render and display. For some reason VLC doesn't render them correctly. They're displayed only as normal, default-font text, plus the fact that at times there are two different "lines" of subtitles, one on the bottom of the screen and another on the top of the screen. When this happens, the subtitles overlap, both being shown on the bottom of the screen.

Any info on how to get the subtitles working properly? I tried changing the subtitle-options, but that ended up with nothing to be proud of *smile*

VLC has issues with some subtitles. We are working on it.

Any possible information about when a fix will be released, or any types of workarounds? VLC rocks, keep up the phenomenal work :-D

The subtitles work well if the video is in mpg format, but with other formats (avi, wmv) there is a problem.

It doesn't depend on video format. Problems are related to different subtitle formats. Specially .a(ss)/.ssa subtitles look ugly and show up on wrong formatting. You can always try nightly builds to see if they work better.
