VLC media player crashes - liblibmpeg2_plugin.dll fails

VLC Media Player shows DVD Image screwed up and then crashes on Windows XP on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61. All Updates installed. Tried VLC Version 0.8.6d, e and f, all crash. I replaced the DVD-drive, VLC still crashes. Changing screen resolution didn't help too. The DVD plays fine on other machines using these mentioned VLC versions. Configured VLC to write a log file, it does not create a log file on neither machine.

Windows is displaying a standard error message which says:

AppName: vlc.exe
AppVer: 0.8.6.0
ModName: liblibmpeg2_plugin.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0
Offset: 000162c1

Any idea what this problem could be?

Regards
Richard

You have AnyDVD or similar software installed? Does it help if you copy that DVD to hard drive and try to play it from there?

Sorry for my late answer. I haven't received the notification regarding your post.

No, apart from Windows Media Player and mplayer there is no multimedia software installed at all. And mplayer I installed AFTER I wasn't able to use VLC.

I'll try and copy the DVD to the hard drive.

Well, at last...

VLC media player didn't crash any longer after I installed DVD43 (http://www.dvd43.com/). So it was the copy protection on the DVD that caused VLC to crash.

This is the first time I encountered this behaviour of VLC. Usually, when VLC was not able to handle the copy protection it just didn't play the DVD but it never crashed so far.

Regards and thanks for the help,
Richard
