Transcoding wmv2 wma file

Postby cspangen » 28 Feb 2008 04:12

I am trying to trans code a windows media video 8 (wmv2) file with windows media audio 9 (wma pro?) file to
Windows media 9 (wmv3) with windows media 9 audio (wma pro?). I want change the video but not the
audio. I tell vlc not to transcode the audio but it transcode the audio to windows media audio (v2) 7 8 9.
Vlc will play windows media audio 9 (wma pro). How do I either not trans code the audio or trans code to
windows media 9 (wma pro?).

Thanks,

Carl

I don't think you can transcode windows media 9 (wma pro) with VLC. But it shouldn't transcode audio if you don't choose it, but VLC might write audio tags again so have you really verified that VLC encodes audio again even if you don't choose so?

I do not think you can transcode to wmv pro either. What I do is check the file with AVI Codec and VLC before I transcode and then
after I transcode I check the new file the same way and the new file is wmv3 and the audio is wma v2. I am transcoding
using the wizard and not choosing a audio codec to transcode to, however the audio is changed.

Thanks,

Carl

You can use tools like mediainfo to verify differences between media files.
