i get sound but no picture on my player please help 
Try disabling video overlay by going to:
Settings >> Preferences... >> Video
And untick "Overlay video output". The press "Save".
If that works then bear in mind that VLC should ordinarily be able to overlay video output and it may mean that e.g. there may be issues with your video drivers (you could try updating them).
