Hi and thank you both for help.
Does it help if you disable Use hardware YUV -> RGB conversion from DirectX output module?
I'm afraid I didn't understand how to do this, most likely i've tried though, been changing settings around for hours trying to fix this.
Check in your Graphic Card Driver configuration if there is anything like "Enable Video Hardware Acceleration".
Optional: If you can find some Video settings within the Driver (like... Saturation etc), try to turn off "use application settings"
This was interesting, i turned the slider down to "Disable all DirectDraw and direct3D accelerations"
It did get back most the color when i used directx video output but it was still far from how it should be, the pixels seemed out of place(i could see peoples heads had squares around instead of rounded) and colors weren't quite right, also tried hardware acceleration on and off in vlc options which had no difference.
I am not so bothered to fix it as opengl seems fine for it just more to find out the reason why, i have a expensive computer and any fault annoys me, also i want to make a movie with fraps on a game but it comes out really blurred and i believe this problem maybe related .

So got any ideas about what and why could be causing this?
Your helps much appreciated, Paul.
