I'm using Windows XP in my new office machine and every day, my system would hang just once...I was unable to find the culprit, but today, i figured out that VLC was using 99% of CPU (dunno why). ONce i killed it, it resumed properly and hopefully end of the problem for the day.

Any ideas why? My VLC version is 0.8.6d (wxWidgets Interface)

I usually play online radio at office...so no specific file...it's streaming media...but it plays continuously for hours at times

If it takes hours before problems sneaks up, it might be a little difficult to figure it out. One thing you can try is to open View -> Messages and see what the last messages are when VLC hangs.

any way to log this onto a file? I think VLC becomes unresponsive and i'm not sure that i'll be able to goto View-->Messages

--file-logging from commandline should do it.
