Stereo problems with SPDIF

Postby antonylord » 16 Dec 2007 04:46

Stats : XP Pro SP2, VLC 0.8.9c, Realtek High Definition Audio onboard (v5.10.0.5253) MSI MS-7246 mobo (v7.4) connected via digital (coax) to a Sony 5.1 Home Theatre unit.

Problem : I've been trying to watch a stack of XviD videos lately with stereo sound tracks. The dialogue (which should appear on the centre channel) shows up on the left and right instead.

Tests : I've run the video files through audio software and the correlation / phase meter shows it is fine (a stereo source, dialog appearing as mono [equal left + right channels in phase]). I've played plenty of DVDs (through a DVD player) to confirm the Sony decoder is fine.

No amount of playing with VLC settings (Dolby detection, audio channels etc) or Sound Control Panel (5.1 speakers, stereo speakers) seems to make any difference.

Any ideas what I should be looking at?

Cheers, Antony.

Have you tried other media players? And have you tried to reset VLC's settings?
