Videolan won't start

Hello,
I can't get Videolan to start. When I click to start it, I get a dialog box stating that an error has been experienced and that Videoland needs to close down (I'm paraphrasing). I have uninstalled and re-installed Videolan, but the same error persists.
Anyone has an answer to this?
Many thanks
Guy

Try clearing your preferences and cache. To do this, go to:
Start >> All Programs >> VideoLAN >> Quick Settings >> Reset VLC media player preferences and cache files

Arite.

Arite you ARE God.
I've followed your instructions (at long last), clicked on my beloved VLC icon, and hey, presto, it started.
VLC: what a jewel!
Thanks a million
Guy

Arite, it makes the effort of answering questions here worth it doesn't it, not that CloudStalker needs any recognition. :(

 Just joking.
