VLC Crashes with too much playlist usage

Postby lukelbj » 20 Nov 2007 00:24

I have been using VLC for sometime now, it is a great media player. I have recently noticed a problem: when I am playing more than one file and have the playlist window open VLC sometimes will do one of two things. Either unexpectedly close without notice, just disappear; or a dialog box apears saying "VLC has encountered a problem and needs to close" but VLC will still be running and working. The problem happens only when VLC goes from one playlist item to the next, or when the user fiddles with the previous and next functions. It has never happened when pausing or stopping. I have not noticed this on my laptop, just on my desktop. I am running VLC 0.8.6c on Windows XP. I use two soundcards on my desktop and it happens on both.

Thanks,
Luke

i'm having the same problem. found another thread that said to try two things:
1. in prefs, up the priority
* under advanced, check 'increase the priority of the process'
2. in prefs, disable preparsing
* under playlist, uncheck 'automatically preparse files'

just wanted to help out, since this forum has more single post threads than i've ever seen before. vlc is getting there [not great yet] and its motly because of silly problems like this, and the fact that a thread sits unanswered for 3 months.
