No sound in WMP11 but sound in VLC

How do I restream an avi file that's in PAL format and plays in Windows Media Player 11 without sound but plays fully in VLC? I want to be able to burn the file to a DVD and view it on my TV/Stereo DVD player. It appears to be in PAL format. At least that's the error message I got using Nero Essentials 7. I tried using WiAVIVideoConverter to convert it to MP2 but don't get any sound. The only place I DO get sound is in VLC. I know there must be a way to do this because I had some wav DTS audio files before and some kind soul from this forum instructed me on how to recode them so I could burn them to CD and play them on my stereo CD player. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Not really. VLC uses its own codecs and has NO interaction with WMP

It sounds like you are missing some DirectShow codecs (e.g. for AC3 audio), which WMP11 rely on in order to playback media. VLC is unaffected since, as j-b said, it uses its own codecs.

Use Mediainfo to check what codec your AVI file uses for audio.
