How to stream video from camcorder, audio from sound card

Postby scgroup » 16 Aug 2007 08:32

I'm running VideoLAN 0.8.6c under Win XP SP2. A Sony HDR-HC7 (in HDV output format) is connected via 1394. I want to stream video from the camera, but supply audio via the sound card. On the DirectShow tab, I select Video device name=Microsoft AV/C Tape Device and Audio device name=SigmaTel Audio. The video streams fine, but the camera's microphone gets sent for the audio. I also have a conventional video capture card and an Epiphan VGA2USB on the machine. When either of those video sources is selected, the SigmaTel audio gets streamed properly. Is there any way (short of feeding an attenuated copy of the audio into the camera's mic jack) to stream audio from the SigmaTel when the camera is selected?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum. I don't know enough about VLC to judge whether this is a Windows-specific issue, and don't have a Linux box with the needed interfaces to test it.

I have the same problem with Canon HV20 HDV camcorder. I've tried with Windows XP and Vista and even with different audio & video transcoding options, but it always takes the audio from the firewire HDV-stream.

It seems like a bug, because VLC works just great with HDV-files, and with webcams etc. you can use soundcard as audio device.

This feature (or bugfix) is really important, because I haven't found other good solutions for grabbing HDV video and "muxing" it with sound from soundcard mic inputs. I need my video and audio to be in sync from the start. For my usage, recording video and audio separately wont be feasible.

I'll pay 20€ if someone fixes this bug. (Disclaimer: If for some reason I'm just doing something wrong, you won't get the money - I'll have to use it to get drunk =)
