Win2k to WinXP = no more A52 sound coming out.

Hi,
I can't have the a52 over s/pdif to work anymore on WinXP. It used to work fine under Win2k with the correct output module but now each time I switch to a52 no sound comes out and the amp doesn't switch to digital like it used to. It works fine with every other audio devices thru the s/pdif.
I have an Asus P4P800-VM with soundmax drivers that are the same for both os; and Latest vlan 0.6.8c.
Am I missing something on the WinXP install?
Is there another vlan version that could help?
Super weird...and very frustrating.
Thanks, J.

Select VLC media player and go to: Tools > Preferences > (tab) Audio > Output models > (check the box "Advanced options") and select "Win32 waveOut extension output" from the drop-list".

Clearly you haven't read my post, I actually expected that answer would show up.

Well then, I'm not sure what you're talking about. Is it that you have no sound when switching to a52 over s/pdif, or does it only come in stereo sound?

ok...before moving to WinXP I was watching whatever video files encoded with ac3/dts/dd audio using the a52 device with the "Win32 waveOut extension output" and everything was fine. When it was stereo encoded well obviously I used the stereo device.
I use s/pdif all the time and it outputs everything on both os EXCEPT that now the a52 device with the "Win32 waveOut extension output" doesn't output crap. If I switch to any other device it works like it used to.
I'm trying to figure out if I forgot to install anything in WinXP that I use to have in Win2k that might have done a difference, maybe installing windvd, which I haven't done yet on the new os, might trigger something.
Thanks!

Maybe VLC doesn't recognize the sound card configuration. Go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > (tab) audio > under "Default device" click the "Advanced" button > make sure the speaker setup says 5.1 surround sound speakers. If that doesn't work I'll try to think of some other ideas.

ok but I haven't changed any hardware, I'm still using the same soundmax embedded chip with the exact same driver.
AC3 and PCM are also set the same way, using s/pdif.
Plus the 5.1 speaker setup on windows does not apply to s/pdif but to analog outputs, I believe.
Now when I use the normal output module there's a signal coming in my amp but with the stuttering issue that "win32 waveOut" usually corrects, and corrected before with Win2k.
