Sound problem

I listen to Radio Crazy Jazz with VLC.EXE on two different Windows XP computers on the same ADSL-Router.
The notebook connected via WLAN works without problems.
The computer connected via 100 MB Ethernet cable presents serious sound distortion using VLC.EXE but sound is OK with Windows Media Player.

What can be the problem?

Thanks in advance,
Wolf Bartels

Turn down the volume in LC.

or (on some audio cards mostly older audio cards)

Shut down the "Use float32 output" in Preferences, Audio, Output modules, DirectX

Reducing volume did not bring any better sound.
The used audio card is a build in one.

I found the reason: there was something left from a former 'Total Recorder' installation. Reinstalling Total Recorder and then uninstalling it again solved the problem.
