Newbie dual-monitor question

I've done some searching, and see a lot of topics about dual monitors on the forums, but none of them covering my (I hope) simple issue.

I have a dual-monitor setup. When I play a video, VLC plays in its window, and completely takes over my second monitor as display. I'd like VLC to JUST play the video in its window. I can't find any options for this anywhere in the preferences or advanced preferences. Could someone lend me a hand here, please?

Maybe this might work: Go to the preferences menu > Video > Output modules > DirectX > check the "Advanced options" box and next to "Name of desired display device" click on the refresh button and select 'Display1' from the drop-list.

Tried that. If I've got the display set to display 1 and try to move VLC to the second monitor, nothing displays at all. However, if I move VLC to the primary monitor, it still displays fullscreen on the second monitor while running in the window in the primary.

Before you move the image to the second monitor try disabling "Overlay video our" in the preferences menu. Also move the video window a little more then halfway across until you see a moving image.

You have an Nvidida gfx card, right? If thats the case, this is the soultion:
(not sure about the name of the menu choices, mine are in swedish)

* right click the desktop, choose "nvidia control panel".
* Choose "video and television"
* Click "fullscreen video options"
* click "show only in viewer application"

Done.
