I made a playlist with a lot of files, setting vlc to fullscreen mode.. at the end of each file vlc quickly goes out of fullscreen mode and back to fullscreen mode i ½ a sec.. is there a fix to that or does is happen to everybody?

The resolve is to have all the media files in the playlist the same format and container.

okay, what if the file originaly was .avi but I converted it to .vob .. to match the other files format.. should it be okay then or ?

all files are within a xspf playlist.

hmm even if i convert the .avi file to .vob (so all the files are .vob) it still jumps out of fullscreen :(

is it because vlc has to change codec when playing another file or whats the technical explanation?

is a fix to this problem in your plans for future development of vlc? :)

VLC doesn't make .vob it makes .mpeg

It's Windows that hangs on to the DLLs for a period of time that makes this work. VLC releases everything at the end of each file and starts again for the next file.

Im sorry I dont understand what you mean, can you explain it in other words?

If the formats and container do not change, VLC will not leave full screen mode when the file changes. If the Videos are all cut on a key frame (beginning and end of file) there will be no hesitations, lags or blocky tendencies at the change of file either. This is due to Windows hanging on to the DLLs for a period of time (that helps speed the reload) and NOT VLC. This will occur unconditionally in other operating systems.

If the formats and / or container change. new DLLs will be loaded according to what is necessary and VLC will momentarily leave full screen mode.

So I have a question, is it possible, with some sort of re-wright, for VLC to incorporate this ability of hanging on to the dlls for smooth transition, or is this just a dream?

I've noticed this as well, glad to see it confirmed that it is differences in formats that causes it, I had my suspicions.

Can anyone suggest a good simple and hopefully cheap program that I can use to check/convert my clips into the same format and container? Most of the material gets copied to my hard drive straight from dvd.

What exactly is meant by the term container?

Thanks for any help,

Peter

MeGUI works reasonably well. You could also try Avidemux.

The container is noted by the extension, like MP4, AVI, MKV, OGM, WMV and etc. A container is a wrapper that allows video, audio, chapters, subtitles and menus to be in the same file and in sync. Not all containers support all of these options.

As Cloudstalker asked, is it just a dream to do a re-write or something like that?

I run a nightclub and Im using my laptop as 1st Display and then alot of projectors as 2nd display, to show all kinds of visuals / musicvideos / commecials ect. all which comes in different containers and formats. I cant figure how to run the show else :( ofcourse I have to run it fullscreen.
.. right now it all runs on dvds, but as you can figure thats not very handy :(..

If you guys have some other solution than praying for the 're-write' :P plz let me know.

It is doubtful at this time that VLC will change in this regard. Try using a background screen that displays the name of the club or something. Your patrons will think it's part of the show. :)

hehe, I could do that :D.. but its kinda obvious that it jumps out of fullscreen and its not on purpose (you can see the borders of VLC ect. whch is not that nice)..

hmm, is it possible to pay you guys some money to kind of fix it, if you catch my drift  - its quite important

Nothing is impossible just time consuming! I don't think any of the devs are interested in a rewrite of the core at the moment whit 0.9.0 coming up and feature requests for this version have been locked.

Exactly my point.. I know its time consuming and one could ask if it was worth it (time vs problemsize) - thats why I wouldnt mind paying for this to work, couse its quite importante to me... or is it out of the question to speed up the programming by paying?

If i make a feature request on this problem, do you think its possible that it would be in the next update ? (ofcourse the next version after 0.9)
