Hi all,

I'm a newbie for VLC, which is great. I'm just wondering if it can display the subtitle in divx media format (.divx). Because if it can, I would be able to get rid of divxplayer and completely shift to VLC, ever.

I you speak of the new .divx files with XSUB subtitles, the answer is no.

oh my. DivxPlayer is still needed then. Is there any roadmap or something to xsub support in the future (near, I hope)?

Well, XSUBs are image based, not used a lot, so, I don't know. As soon as someone does it. :D

I believe DivX subs are proprietary, copyright DivX networks as is their menu system.

If someone would like to confirm or deny this first it would be nice and it will provide an answer.

Well, yes this is proprietary, but basically, it is a .bmp based format. :D

XSUB

Hi:
Almost all DVD players sold in Argentina that support DIVX support DIVX 6 and embedded subtitles. Some of them ONLY support that kind of subtitles, so you don't even have .SRT or .SUB as an option.!! And it is very simple and fast to embed subtitles using the AVISSUB free software. So, it is very important for us that VLC support XSUB subtitles, because most of the movies here are in that format, and when we need to watch them in a PC we are forced to use the ugly DIVX Player instead of the much better VLC. So, please, it would be wonderful if you do it!!!. Thanks in advance
