VLC / Cable and Hauppauge Dual Tuner

Hi there,

Im doing a job for a client at the moment installing a Multimedia system over a few floors. ive got the system all worked out except for the software on the TV Tuner pc.

They have a SKYTV Decoder(cable) which plugs into the TV Tuner via Composite Video and L / R Video RCA cables. Then on the the PC they would like to be able to Schedule to Record Cable TV and to stream the TV Over the Local network.

Ive figured out the streaming part, i can stream files or anything that is currently on the playlist fine. The problem ive got is when i plug the Cable TV into the TV Tuner card and try to get a feed from it i get nothing.

I go to file > Open Capture Device when i refresh the list for my Video Device Name i have 2 (with the same name) my geuss is these are each of the TV tuners since its a dual tuner card. Im not sure what settings i need to assign in the advanced options to get it to work. I click on OK and i get nothing.

Can any1 help please ? This is kind of urgent.

Is there a known problem with Dual Tuner TV Capture Cards? Such as the hauppauge PVR500-MCE?

I encountered this problem a year ago... VLC itself doesn't support the PVR500-MCE only the PVR250 and 350... It is said that myth-tv supports the PVR500 using the IVTV drivers and that somehow you can get them to run with VLC... I played with them for a while but never got it to work and couldn't find anyone that had....

It appears VLC is setup to run with cards that output raw video and doesn't really like cards that only support encoded video... I ended up switching to BT878 based card and a much faster CPU
