bug with Unicode interface characters outside [current] ANSI

The new version 0.8.6b introduced a major bug related to interface strings containing Unicode characters, either not belonging to the current codepage or just pure Unicode characters not belonging to any ANSI (8 bit) codepage.

With version 0.8.6a everything was fine. The problem appeared with 0.8.6b. The system setting involved in this problem is the "Language for non-Unicode programs", which is a non-sense, as VLC IS an Unicode enabled program.
Because of this I am no longer able to use the updated Romanian language file (not yet published, I'm still working at it), becasue it uses the correct Romanian language characters U+0218 ... U+021B which are outside any ANSI (8 bit) codepage.

The problem can be put in evidence if I am switching the French language interface on my system which uses Romanian locale (including the "Language for non-Unicode programs" setting):

And this is how my Romanian interface is now displayed:

http://people.videolan.org/~jb/vlc2/vlc ... -win32.zip Should fix the problem. Can you confirm it ?

On my previously installed version which was downloaded from one of the locations specified here, the problem is with the file "libwxwidgets_plugin.dll". I replaced it with the one from version 0.8.6a and now the interface looks ok.

The build from http://people.videolan.org/~jb/vlc2/vlc ... -win32.zip works directly (as is).

??

Thanks a lot. This will be corrected in the afternoon.
Can you test another exe ?

Yes, sure.
Is it possible to include also an updated Romanian language file ? It is this one here, which is far from over (I'm working on it), but has undegone a recent major revision and may be useful even in the actual state.

Thank you,
Cristi

If the "another exe" is this one here http://people.videolan.org/~jb/vlc2/vlc ... -win32.zip then this is working fine (from this thread's perspective :)).

This one here ftp://ftp.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc ... -win32.exe is also working fine ... and also the one from Endpoint Corporation (Sweden) mirror which is the same (binary comparison). However, the one from IRCAM (France) mirror is still the old version. Don't know about the rest.

Ok, no problem. Until then I hope I will be in a more advanced state with my translation.

Yes,it did fix the problem.
That was for version 0.8.6b. With version 0.8.6d the bug is back to life and lives well in the official release.

I guess the previous message was a spam (just look at the other 4 messages from "Snow123", all are reproducing an existing message from the respective threads with no sense).
