Hello,
first thanx for this player. It's the only player I found that plays the AVI created by my Ricoh camera. I think it's a kind of compressed AVI format. Now I would like to convert these files to a format that I can burn to a DVD. But somehow it doesn't work. I only get a black screen. Is there anybody who knows what kind of codec and /or software does the job.
File Information: Stream 0, Codec MJPG, Type Video, Resolution 320x240, Framerate 14.999925

Use MPEG 2v with MPEG 2a in a MPEG PS container and add fps=<frame rate> to the command line.

You may be surprised, but VLC is far more than just a player.

It is a fully fledged converter amongst other things, so you can use VLC itself to convert your input file to a more standard AVI or MPEG video

Yes! That's what I was referring to when I posted.

Now I have to find out how it works. I'm pretty new to this and hope there is some kind of manual.

well, I resent the fact that this software is public at all. And I guarantee you that this is not the only software that will run your little vid camera file ... I am sorry I ever heard about this .ts format and hope it is put to it's own miserable end sooner rather than later.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble but the MPEG TS container is expanding in its usage. Broadcasters are continuing to use this for h.264 and MPEG HD formats.

For what possible reason would you resent the fact that this software is public? Cos you'd rather be charged for a piece of software with far fewer features perhaps?

And mpeg-ts definitely doesn't have a "miserable life"... Ever heard of DVB-T (digital terrestrial television), or DVB-S (satellite tv) or DVB-C (cable tv)? Yup that's right, they all use mpeg-ts as a container format, and I believe that it will continue in use with HDtv too
