Overlay and transparency

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I can't understand and solve this problem (actually, I don't know if it's really a problem):
when I open a video file, it produces a strange effect, a sort of "transparency", if I minimize the VLC window, it distorts the other windows; if I uncheck "overlay", the effect disappears, but then if a play a video full screen, VLC doesn't play it not fluid anymore.
By the way, what is overlay?

Thanks for your help!

Update your video drivers.

I have a notebook (Armada M700), with integrated video card (8 MB), I hoped there was an option. Actualy, in the VLC manual, it talks about "Logo transparency" in a "subpictures filters" menu, but I can't find it in the video settings!
It's not a real matter, but I wanted most to know from what that "effect" dipends.

It is a video driver issue. There is nothing in VLC that will correct this.

OK! Thanks! No really matters! VLC rocks!
