Hi, all!

I am using VLC v.085b.
I have got some MKV which audio part is AC3, the problem is that whenever I try to play them, an error immediately pops out.

I have tried to play them in WM Player instead, but I can hardly hear any sound from the WM player.

What could the problem be?

Do I have to install AC3 CODEC for my VLC?

I have tried VLC0.86a then, still there is no audio output.
I can only see the video, but hear no sound!

I disable the S/PDIF option, and then I can hear the sound now.

But there is another problem then, DJ.
VLC displays the subtitles as

Which font type should I choose?

Use a Unicode font like ARIALUNI.TTF

I am using Windows XP Pro SP2.

BTW, I find the videos rather too dim, I would like to adjust the brightness, but don't know how to do that.

The font is a part of Microsoft Office and is copyright Microsoft. But another Unicode font may work.

You can use the overlay option in your Video Card's utilities to set the Brightness, Contrast and etc. VLC will pick up these settings as will any other player. You can also use the Extended GUI in VLC. This offers real filters that will not effect the overlay settings.
