Playlist (and/or) Sub-playlist

Postby jamesmag2325 » 19 Mar 2007 19:45

Hi, I'm a newbie.

I did a search but couldn't get anything close to my question; so here is my problem.

I enjoy using VLC to listen to 'net radios; and I can type in (or paste) the URL for my internet radio staions. No problem. And I'm able to save all of my stations in various folders and sub-folders. I then save the playlist. But later on when I load the playlist(s), all the folders and sub-folders are gone. All the radio stations are only listed as individual entity instead of being displayed in my painstaking categories and/or sub-categories.

How do I keep my playlist with their categories and sub-categories?

An example:

JAZZ (main folder or category)
Modern Jazz (sub-folder or sub-category)
Swing & Bebop (sub-folder or sub-category)

And I can do the same for 70s Music, etc. But When I re-open VLC and reload my playlist their is no more JAZZ, nor Modern Jazz, Swing, etc. Just a list of all the radio stations. So, JAZZ, FUNK, SPORTS, NEWS/TALK are gone but the radio stations are there.

HELP!!!

There is no library function in VLC. However, one is planed for 0.9.0

For now you will need to navigate to the folder or sub folder that you made.

Thanks, for the quick response.

But as I stated, the folders and or sub-folders are gone when I reloaded the playlist. Just a list of stations; and I will have to remember jazz, seperate from sports, seperate from classical, etc.

But, I'm looking forward to 0.9.0

I was under the impression you were making folders and sub folders in Windows and making a playlst for each of the stations you want to save.

Now you seem to be saying something else. Saving all the URLs in one playlist and have them labeled in folders and sub folders is not possible at this time.

i think u may have read it wrong DJ, his question never changed.. and its the same question I have...
I saved the playlist as both .m3u and .xspf and its the same, they both flatten the playlist into 1 directory.

I thought since .xspf is in XML format it would save the tree structure I made using nodes.

also when you select multipul files in the playlist ad then drag them to a diffrent node, only 1 file gets moved, you have to do each file individually, when you have loads of files, thats very annoying.

Little fix:
make a playlist of playlists.. its a very annoying way if doing it.. but it works!
