All of a sudden, avi's skip

All of a sudden it seems like any AVI I play keeps skipping every couple of minutes, even with AVIs that I've played before with no problem. I've tried restarting my computer and clearing the preferences, but it still happens. What else can I try? THANKS!

What is the CPU usage?

Play a commercial DVD and note the CPU usage. Post that info... here.

CPU usage is like 2-4% only.

OK! Try looking at the DMA settings for all your drives.

It would also be a good idea to do a DirectX diagnostic or you could update DirectX runtime and then do the diagnostic.

I am assuming you have erased VLC's Preferences folder and not just reset it.

Open Multimedia in control panel, click advanced and change hardware acceleration to "none". Then open Windows Media Player, tools, options, performance. Change hardware acceleration to "none" also.
