I am also interested in adding visualizations to VLC 0.9.3. Where can I find these and how can I install them?

Since I am using Ubuntu, I assume these file would have to go into /usr/lib/vlc/visualization/ to be made available in VLC.

I tried installing libvisual* from the ubuntu repositories but did not see a difference in the list that VLC offers. Ideally I would like the same visualizers that are available to amarok when I install the libvisual* packages.

Well, you basically cannot add visualisations to vlc.

Unless someone writes a new visualization module for VLC that can use XMMS visualizations.

Has anyone figured this out yet? I agree, milk visualizations would be an outstanding addition to VLC media player.

Ok, first post on this forum:

I assume the term "milk visualization" refers to the Milkdrop visualizations (milkdrop.co.uk) contained in Winamp?

If so:
(a) Which Milkdrop version will be supported? Version 1.04 (from milkdrop .co.uk) or 2.0d (from Winamp 5.57)?
(b) Any way to test it with the any of the VLC develop versions/builds? Or in 1.0.5?

My six-week-old is now getting bored by goom so she does not fall asleep as quickly any more.

Ok, so how do we add new Visualizations? I'd like to get Milkdrop working in VLC so I don't have to use Winamp Anymore with my party projector.

I found the ProjectM project,
http://projectm.sf.net

The files seem to be all for Linux.

I opened up the presets_milkdrop-2.0.1-Source.tar and found a whole list of .milk files

Where do I put the .milk files so VLC shows new Visualizations?

Since so many are listed, hopefully we can set VLC to randomize them all as well so I'm not stuck with one at a time.

This page didnt help: http://wiki.videolan.org/SoC_2009/p2p_projectM

This page says to put them in the Modules directory but I don't have one
http://ivoire.dinauz.org/blog/index.php ... ons-in-VLC
(they must be talking about the Linux version)

How do we add to Windows VLC?

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VLC_medi ... on-history
The change log says:
Visualization:
* Support of .milk visualization files using projectM libraries

How? I just posted my Windows question in the Windows forum but wanted to ask the cross platform experts

projectM is integrated inside VLC, but it doesn't work. So until that time, we wait.

I just saw this tweet by @videolan

"For music visualisations lovers, projectM support on VLC for Windows is fixed: http://goo.gl/VGymc" - http://twitter.com/#!/videolan/status/8310846912471040

Does anyone have any more info on this?

The tweet back to me said:

"@ElijahLynn you can get it with the latest version of 1.1.x or in 1.2.x.
It works on Linux too."

I'm interested in figuring out how to do this as well, considering I have a massive folder full of .milk files.

Just awaiting developments...
If you would be running Slackware, you could download my VLC package with fully functional ProjectM visualization... http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-slackware.html

If you want to see how I made it work, there is the build script for you: http://slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds ... SlackBuild

Now, where are all these additional cool .milk files everyone is sitting on?

Cheers, Eric

Cheers.

I see the new ProjectM Visualization in the latest windows VLC player. Where and How do we add the .MILK effects? As of now the only visualization ProjectM gives us is the works ProjectM rippling around colorful like. It seems we're so close to finally getting a good visualization but someone needs to let us know please!

I figured out a few things after a friend emailed me what he did.

I created a visualisation folder: (spelled with a s instead of a z?)
C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\visualisation

I copied all the .MILK files from the following WinAmp installation to the new folder above.
C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\Milkdrop2\presets

When playing audio in VLC Player I picked ProjectM from visualizations.

It's working ! Next Question is how do I select next visualization or resolution options.
(I see no visualization controls/options like winamp has)

Crap, this is a bug. I'll fix the mispelling for VLC 1.1.9 and 1.2.0
