1/ Search the forum
2/ Buy a correct OS

...

3/ Deactivate RGB=> YUV in the directX preferences.
Use DirectX output.

Hey j-b,
Tried your suggestions - ie) Searched the forum and bought a correct OS (by stating VLC works with Vista - is that not considered a "correct" OS?
Also tried your one useful suggestion - #3, which worked beautifully, THANK YOU!
For anyone else looking for a little more detail..
Open VLC
on Setting tab, choose Preferences,
Expand the Video Preference, expand Output modules and click on DirectX
Make sure the Advanced box is ticked in the bottom right corner
Unclick the option "Use hardware YUV - RGB conversions"
Click back on Output modules and on the drop down box, choose DirectX video output.
Click on Save and you should be good to go. Worked great for me!
VLC rocks!
