WMVHD & SPDIF

WMVHD video files include WMA9 for audio. IT is 5.1 and my Vlan reads it. I can select 5.1 from Audio Device menu.

SPDIF output is selected.

But my DD, DTS receiver stays at stereo. How can the receiver understand 5.1 audio that is not AC3?

Thanks.

I’m not sure what kind of sound card you have, but you may need to change this in you’re sound card’s settings. There should be a way to change it from the built in decoder to S/PDIF so that you’re receiver can decode Dolby Digital or DTS.

I can decode DD, DTS. But cannot decode WMVHD 6 channel audio.

My sound card settings are ok, SPDIF output is selected.

The format is WMap and your receiver can't do it even if it were to be passed to the S/PDIF port, which it isn't. The same holds true for MP4a (AAC) 5.1 audio.

Hmm, you are right DJ. I should go for a sound card upgrade for multi channel analog output instead of digital output (from Terratec DMX XFire 1024 4 channel -- SB Audigy or X-Fi).

I also couldnt decode the multichannel audio in a quicktime video. It was i thnik MP4a. Vlan decoded it but the receiver couldn't.

You can update your audio card until you run out of manufactures. There are no standards for passing the formats (AAC or WMap) to S/PDIF or for that matter a receiver that will accept these formats.

I had the same problem...

Changing the Audio Output Mode from "default" to "Win32 waveOut" fixed it! Go to prefs, audio/Output modules, select Advanced options at the bottom and select waveOut from the dropdown menu.

It's the same problem with AC3filter btw. For some reason DirectX doesn't like SPDIF output, and converts it to standard stereo before sending it to the SPDIF port.

I've already selected Waveout. You understood wrong. I can decode Ac3, DD, DTS. I couldn't decode WMV-HD audio. Because my receiver can not decode that. No way to change that.
