Windows Vista, VLC doesn't work properly!!

Hi,

I'm running a 654bit Vista, and have some problems with my video players.

Windows Media player 11 worked for a while but now crashes and does not work at all. Rather than troubleshooting this, i installed Divx, which works but for certain AVIs doesn't give me any sound. So finally, i decided to go with the sure thing, so naturally i downloaded VLC. Well, the funny thing is, VLC runs and installs properly but when running the same files that don't give me any sound in Divx, VLC gives me the sound, but no picture whatsoever.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be due to? Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm tired of the ghetto solution of simultaneously running Divx to watch the film, and VLC to hear the sound...

According to Bill Gates at the on going CES show in Los Vegas, Vista is multi-media Paradise and is better than any prior version. You believe this???

One of my friends who is running VLC on Vista told me the same thing.

He is able to get a video image only when using the GDI output.
But with poor image quality and poor video performance, of course :?

AFAIK he's using some AMD dual core and a ATI X1950 XTsomething.

I have the same problem. I'm using Vista Final RTM. No video on divx/xvid, mpeg, wmv, iso files, anything. Audio plays fine though. Just have a black screen. VLC adjusts the screen as if a picture is to be played but it is black with just audio.

On the DVD images I try to watch it shows the menus fine, but when going to play the movie black screen and just audio.

Same problem here, with Vista 32-bit RTM, but I get a blank white screen. Sound is okay. Would any of the latest nightly builds be any better?

Yes, of course, VLC 0.9.0-svn is better but highly unstable...

My friend solved it that way:

Uninstalled v0.8.5 he was still using,
Installed latest v0.8.6a release,
Use DirectX Video Output as the default video output module.

Hope this might help some of you.

This works and doesn't work at the same time. The video stays at one size no matter what. So if u drag vlc smaller instead of the video scaling down with it u just get less of the video, same as if u go full screen video stays the same size.

I tried the overnight builds and none of them work on my pc. I get errors when I open up preferences and all the options are blank, nothing is there to select default. Not even the drop down is there at all.

I have no problem with viewing video when using DirectX or OpenGL. However I've got another problem - whenever I try to jump any amount of seconds (doesn't matter if it's 5s, 10s or 1 minute) VLC instantly crashes on me.
Anyone else have this problem?

I have the absolute latest Windows Vista RTM Business edition just received today and the latest vlc version (.8.6.a) works absolutely perfectly, I don't have any of these problems.

Hi!

VCL is not working properly, when the aero-effect of vista is turned on. try to turn it off and vcl works with the "standard" video-output-modul.
