VLC not playing correctly??

My situation is different from these other threads. It plays VOB, MP3, an others. But it just seems to have a problem with RAR files that have been extracted? It will play them for about 9 minutes an always stops in the exact same spot???

Use WinRar to extract the files. Check the files before extraction. If there are any errors the file is corrupt. Unfortunately this assumes the file was good when it was archived. Considering it always stops in the same spot you should have some indication of issues before it stops both in Messages and visually, perhaps some blockiness to the picture or baubles in the sound. All of this is a good indication of a corrupt file. Can you skip a portion of the video with out problem? Do other files play normally?

How would I know if its corrupt before extract? It was a good file when downloaded since others dont have this problem with exact file. The message that it says is "ffmpeg warning: marker does not match f_code(mpeg4@00AD1700) & avi warning: dont seem to find any data." I can skip through but only from the area before it stops(but it plays fine before)in fact there is no blockiness or bauble sound it just takes longer than it does to load compared to other files. Yes, when I skip through the other files I do see the blockiness an baubles sound but after a few seconds it goes away.

Any gaps in the file should cause VLC to stop as though it has reached EOF. This keeps a bad file from crashing the system as many players will do. But is also an indication of a corrupted file as is the note that it always stops in the same spot. Often a file will play if you can determine the length of the error and find good data again but this does depend on the format and is not always possible.

Where can I put that information in?? So does this mean the file is corrupt?? Open Network Stream, [File] Wizard its alot of things I never heard of but I had a feeling if it was messed with it could play.

It's just a matter of grabbing the time indicator with the mouse and doing a trial and error. The ctrl or alt left right keys time skip may be more precise and can be set in preferences, Hot Keys.

Never mind the files were split. I did not know EVERY file had to be downloaded to play. But the files are .MKV can they be burned to DVD-R an played on dvd player(besides computer)??

Every file had to be downloaded and every file had to be there in order to be extracted. Doing an error check before extraction is a good thing.

They can be burned to a DVD but no DVD Player will play the file outside of a computer capable of Matroska files.

Does it account for something by the files being convert from RAR an WINzip?? If not how can MKV be converted to be compatable with DVD player?

You will need to convert the file to something your DVD player can understand like DivX if it is capable or the standard MPEG 2.

My DVD says Multi Format Playback(DVD-V/DVD-R, WMA, MP3, JPEG, CD/Video CD, CD-RW) would DivX play this? If so have you heard of Apollo_-_DIVX_TO_DVD??

DivX capable players are available i the market but not every set top player will play DivX.
