strange audio problems

I just started using VLC and I'm having strange audio problems with it - absolutely no video problems. Either/Both 1 of 2 things happens. First, there appears to be a constant staticky sound in the background, which I know is not part of the video. Second, when characters in the video talk, there are sometimes pauses in their speech, so the speech is stuttered continuously, making the video unhearable. I've tried changing the audio channels/settings, and nothing seems to be making it better. Can anyone help me with this?? tks.

This could be caused from a number of issues. Primary issue being it could be just a bad video. Have you tried other videos, to see if it still does it?

If it still does it, try updating your soundcard driver.

Also try going to (in vlc) Settings -> Preferences -> Advanced Options -> Audio -> Highlight Output Modules, Try selecting different modules to see if that helps. I would try "DirectX Output Module" first.

Before you change output modules try shutting off the float32 option in preferences, audio, output modules, DirectX then press Save and close the player. Some sound cards do not like this option and cause some strange issues. It also wouldn't hurt to update your sound card drivers as they should carry a date later than Oct 04.
