VLC 0.8.6 problem with mpg-4 VKV H.264 file on Celeron D

I have a HDTV 720jp file format .mkv in mpg-4 H.264 encoded.

It plays fine on my dual pentium Dell PC but it does not play (meaning the image does not keep up at all, keeps dropping, lagging, pixel breaking) on my Celeron D machine.

But on the same Celeron machine the same file plays absolutely fine with Windows Media Player 11 using the CoreAVC codecs.

VLC Player did not disappoint me before so is there any way to fix this or we need to wait for future version with improved H.264 codec?

Turn off the loop filter.

hi thanks for the reply. I already tried that. It did not have any effect.

Other than making sure you're using DirectX output and turning off all deinterlacing and other filters, there's not much you can do. I think we can all agree that CoreAVC is a wonderfully efficient decoder. 720p h.264 on a Celeron is just amazing.

Sounds to me that your machine is very marginal and CoreAVC may be the only solution available for you.
